It is significant to keep in mind that this number may have changed since then.
The main professional association for CPAs in the US is called the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Chartered Accountants (CAs) are accountants who have completed the educational, work-related, and examination requirements established by a professional accounting body, such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), or the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) (AICPA).
Additionally, they have fulfilled the continuing professional development (CPD) requirements of that organization and have been given permission to use the title “Chartered Accountant” or a designation to that effect.
High ethical standards and continued professional competence are expected of CAs.
Around the world, there are at least 2.1 million qualified (chartered/certified) accountants.
